For the second fiscal quarter which ended on September 30 video game publisher Activision Blizzard has managed to beat the expectations of the market by posting sales of 627 million dollars (454 million Euro) which is well above what analysts were expecting to see.

Profits were also higher than during the same period of last year, reaching 148 million dollars (147.1 million Euro) coming from just 51 million.

Activision Blizzard also highlighted the fact that most of the revenue was derived from digital channels, with 62 percent of the revenue coming from products that have no physical presence, as opposed to 42% during the third quarter of 2010.

Bobby Kotick, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Activision Blizzard, has stated, “As we focus on 2012, we have a strong product pipeline which features a minimum of two highly-anticipated new titles from Blizzard Entertainment, including Diablo III, and a new Call of Duty game from Activision Publishing.”

He added, “As a result, we expect to deliver another year of profitable growth. I believe our unyielding commitment to excellence and our creative talent around the globe will continue to position Activision Blizzard as the leader in interactive entertainment.”

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which was developed by Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games, is now on sale and is widely expected to set new records for sales during both its first week and for the rest of the year, which means that Activision Blizzard's fourth quarter will likely be another profitable one.

The annual revenue forecast for the company talks about bringing in 4.25 billion dollars (3.07 billion Euro) before the end of March 2012.

At the moment Blizzard has not confirmed when Diablo III will be launched but fans expect it to see launched during the first few months of 2012.
