Even though upgrading a laptop of any kind, whether a notebook or a netbook, is not exactly as easy and widespread as with desktops, it is still possible. In fact, Active Media Products has an entire line of products aimed at enabling such moves for end-users interested in improving their existing mobile PCs. One such line is the SaberTooth SSD family of storage units. AMP has even expanded its SaberTooth ZX series with a new solid state drive model featuring 128GB of storage.

The SaberTooth ZX drive line now features storage solutions of 32GB, 64GB and 128GB. The new unit is based on the PATA / IDE (parallel ATA) ZIF interface and uses the 1.8-inch form factor. Like the other in the line, it is meant to play the part of more responsive storage alternatives for netbooks.

The new 128GB SSD reaches sequential read speeds of 80MB/s and write speeds of 38MB/s. This performance allows for a faster boot-up and application load speeds, less power consumption, less weight, a silent operation, less heat and a higher reliability than what HDDs can provide.

"Now you can get up to 128GB of capacity in a very fast and reliable 1.8-inch ZIF SSD. This drive will make a lot of power users and mobile professionals happy with the performance and capacity gain. By removing the storage bottleneck most systems will enjoy substantially faster performance," Active Media Products' VP of Sales, Jerry Thomson, said in a statement.

The ZX measures 70 x 54 x 5 mm and supports the PIO mode 6 and Ultra DMA mode 6. The ZX even includes advanced technologies such as the ECC, bad block management and wear leveling, for an increased reliability. The company has also developed an SSD selection guide in order to make it easier for consumers to choose the right solid state drive for their netbook.

Already available through Amazon, the N128G-PATAZIF-ZX 128 SaberTooth ZX SSD is priced at $379.
