Active Media Products has just announced that the company has expanded its line of DOM solid state disks, designed especially for servers and embedded computers, with a series of new models, providing consumers with up to 64GB of storage space.

A DOM (disk on module), is a small flash based storage drive that plugs directly into a SATA standard port which is available on most motherboards.

The drives come with two different mounting options, Type-1 DOMs having the SATA plug placed to the left side of the drive, while Type-2 has the connector to the right side.

However, both Type-1 and Type-2 units share the same feature set, including error-correcting code (ECC) memory, wear leveling and bad block management.

As far as transfer speeds are concerned, the drives can sustain sequential read speeds of up to 100MB/sec and maximum sequential write speeds of 42MB/sec.

A special power saving technology is used to make the drives more energy efficient and improve the battery life of mobile devices.

No details about the SSD controller used inside these DOMs or about their IOPS performance were provided.

"These 64GB DOMs demonstate AMP's commitment to developing cutting edge storage solutions," said Active Media Products Vice President of Sales, Jerry Thomson.

"Active Media Products has by far the widest selection of DOM types and the highest capacity DOMs available, and these 64GB offerings extend our leadership even further," concluded the company's rep.

Both these 64GB SATA DOMs are available now to OEMs directly from AMP for approximately $259.

In addition, Active Media Products also offers 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB versions of these drives, prices starting at $69 for the 8GB model.

Three other connector arrangements are provided for the lower capacity drives, allowing them to be used for designing low profile computing solutions.
