Although Apple's iPad is the undisputed market leader in the Internet tablets' segment right now, there are many other competitors out there who're really coveting its top spot, one of the most vocal being none other than Acer, who's just officially unveiled this past week its own offerings meant to take directly on the iPad. As DigiTimes reports, during a Q&A session held after the global launch event, Acer's CEO, Gianfranco Lanci, made some pretty bold claims as to his company's plans, claiming that Acer is going to overthrow Apple from its dominant position in the tablet segment over the next three years.

Mr. Lanci believes that Apple has focused way too much on the US market and left plenty of maneuvering space for its competitors on the other markets, not to mention the fact that the market is already somewhat saturated with iPads, most of the people who wanted and afforded such a product getting one already.

Of course, it's rather difficult to predict right now whether Acer's CEO is right or not, simply because Apple is the undisputed (95.5 percent) market leader right now, facing towards a Christmas shopping season when the Galaxy Tab is its only (more or less) serious contender.

Plus, when Acer's recently announced tablets will actually start to pose a threat to Apple's iPad, namely at some point in April 2011, the company from Cupertino will be ready with (and perhaps even outing) the iPad's successor, that will yet again get quite a lot of attention from the press and users alike.

The only things that might, indeed, boost Acer's tablet sales compared to those of Apple are its much more widespread presence across various markets around the world and strong retail channels (that have actually managed to push it where it is today), but only time will tell whether the company will actually manage to achieve this goal or not.
