Computer maker Acer should bring to the market a Windows Phone 7 device sometime during the fall of 2011, some of the latest reports on the matter suggest.

Apparently, the company is hard at work with the release of such a device, and should make it available for purchase sometime it September or October 2011.

Acer CEO Gianfranco Lanci reportedly confirmed that the company is not focused only on the release of Android-based devices, and that Windows Phone 7 is also an option they explore.

“If we look at Windows Phone 7, today, I think we see the same opportunity you can see on Android in terms of customization,” Gianfranco Lanci stated.

However, it seems that the company would still focus on Android, and the fact that it came up with a flurry of handsets running under this OS proves that.

However, Acer would still bring a Windows Phone 7 device on the market later this year, but further details on this lack at the moment.

Most probably, the company would have the device running under upgraded flavor of Windows Phone 7, at least this is what the release time frame suggests.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Microsoft has been rumored to plan the release of a major update for its Windows Phone 7 platform, codenamed Mango, sometime in October, one year after the launch of the platform itself.

Acer would not be the only vendor to launch a handsets powered by the upgraded OS, that's for sure.

Various reports suggested not too long ago that Nokia would plan on making a similar move too, and that its first Windows Phone handset would be launched sometime in the fourth quarter of the year.

There are only a few Windows Phone 7 devices available on the market at the moment, but, with more handset vendor set to make new phones available, the platform would certainly start to enjoy more traction on the market.
