Starting 2014, Acer’s smartphones will be available for purchase in more markets around the world, the company’s Chief Executive Officer Jason Chen said on Tuesday.

According to a recent article on Focus Taiwan, the vendor is planning on significantly increasing its smartphone shipments, and wider availability of said devices should help it achieve this goal.

Back in 2013, Acer had its devices available for purchase in 12 countries worldwide, including a series of emerging markets, such as Romania, Thailand and Zimbabwe, but also in developed markets, such as the United Kingdom.

For this year, the company is planning on more than doubling the number of regions where its handsets are available.

According to Chen, Acer aims at selling phones in 25 markets this year and will also release new devices via wireless carriers in six European countries.

"We expect to have multiple times growth because we are gaining very good momentum," Acer’s executive said.

The vendor has just released the Acer Liquid E3 in Taiwan, a mid-range device that features a 4.7-inch touchscreen display and a price tag of NT$9,900 (US$329).

Apparently, its launch is the first to have the CEO present, which supposedly shows that the company is indeed determined to greatly increase its presence on the mobile space.

At the same time, Acer has confirmed plans to ship over 10 million smartphones before the end of this year, which should mark a great increase over last year, when it is estimated to have shipped only around 1.5 million units.

Before the end of this year, the company is set to launch more than 10 smartphone models all around the world. Last year, the vendor announced only seven handset models, Vincent Chen, a product manager at Acer's telecom business department in Taiwan, said.

There’s no question about Acer’s plans to become one of the leading smartphone makers out there, and the company’s Chairman Stan Shih has already confirmed that.

According to him, the maker is determined to make a name in the smartphone segment and become one of the top-tier vendors worldwide.

Unfortunately, Acer has not offer further details on the devices that it will bring to shelves later this year, though chances are that it will unveil them sooner rather than later, in order to ensure that it indeed manages to reach the desired sales level.

Hopefully, more on this will emerge soon, along with specific details on the new markets that will see Acer smartphones available for purchase, so stay tuned to learn the news.
