Computer maker Acer is expected to come to the market with its first tablet PC that would run under Google's Android operating system as soon as this week, some of the latest rumors on the matter suggest.

It appears that the company would plan the launch of a 7-inch tablet PC based on Android no later than tomorrow, during a press conference in New York.

A recent article on DigiTimes cites Taiwan-based makers of notebooks and components, who confirmed the company's plans to release a 7-inch Android 2.2 (Froyo) model during the said event, in addition to a 10-inch Intel-Windows 7 tablet PC.

It appears that the release of this slate would be the company's response to the release of similar solutions from other makers, including Samsung, Toshiba, HP, or ViewSonic.

For those out out the loop, we should mention that these companies already came to the market with Android-based tablet PCs, and that they also unveiled plans to make similar steps on this road in the not too far future.

However, it's doubtful that Acer would actually focus too much on the Tablet PC segment, based on the slow sales various devices enjoyed on the market to the moment.

Moreover, rumor has it that the company would actually aim at the release of tablet PCs only after the release of Gingerbread (Android 2.3) and Honeycomb (Android 3.x) operating system flavors.

Those platform versions were already announced to come with great enhancements on the tablet PC area, and Gingerbread (Android 2.3) might be unveiled in a matter of weeks, as Google confirmed not too long ago.

However, the release of this 7-inch slate from Acer would arrive as a direct response to the said rival solutions, as the company does not want to be too late with the launch of such a device.

For the time being, nothing was officially confirmed on the matter, but, since the expected launch should take place tomorrow, we might be able to learn more info on this in the very near future.
