Not long ago, the web started to once again take notice of FCC filings, among which was one that dealt with an upcoming laptop from Acer, now known as the TimelineX 1830T. Unfortunately, as it is the case with virtually all leaks that come from the Federal Communications Commission, the filing did not exactly contain any real information on the product's specs. Those interested in more details need not fear, however, now that macles has gotten a hold of real information and pictures of the device.

The new portable personal computer is based on the Intel Calpella platform, specifically on the HM55 chipset and the Intel Core i5-520UM dual-core CPU. This central processing unit has a base clock speed of 1.06GHz, not exactly towering, but supports Hyper Threading and comes with the Intel Turbo Boost technology, which, depending on temperature, active cores and utilization, can push the clock as high as 1.83GHz.

The configuration also features 2GB of RAM, a hard drive of at least 160GB and an 11.6-inch screen with a maximum resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. As for the graphics core, it has a clock between 166MHz and 500MHZ and, while it is not capable of handling current games, it will serve well for decoding and accelerating video codecs.

As far as Internet connectivity and communication with other devices are concerned, the laptop is built with Gigabit LAN, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, a multi-card reader, three USB 2.0 ports and an HDMI output. In addition, there is the option of adding Bluetooth and/or 3G. Finally, when it comes to the aesthetic value of the notebook, the Acer TimelineX 1830T has a full-sized keyboard with flat keys, is about an inch thin, uses a textured mesh on the cover of the lid and includes a barely noticeable touchpad.

The laptop's battery life is currently expected to be of about eight hours. Pricing and availability details are still undisclosed, but the official announcement will supposedly occur in the last week of March, when Acer will show off all the other new TimelineX Series notebooks.
