With the IT industry finally moving forward normally, Acer figured it would say something on what it expects to accomplish this year, revealing, among other things, how many notebooks it hopes to sell.

Now that the Chinese Lunar New Year has come and gone, and with the IT industry finally regaining its flow, the rate of new announcements has begun to reassert itself.

Instead of revealing some new machine, however, Acer decided to express some of its expectations for the ongoing year.

Since the beginning quarter of 2011 is nearing its middle, it was high time the company gave a rough estimate of its mobile PC performance outlook.

To be more specific, the company intends, or so says a Digitimes report, to reach between 40 and 45 million notebook shipments.

20 percent of those machines are set to be manufactured by the ODMs based on Taiwan, them being Compal Electronics, Wistron, Pegatron and Quanta Computer, during the third quarter.

The above percentage will rise to 40% in the fourth quarter while shipments will be made to China from Chingqing and to other markets through rail or marine routes.

Acer is currently integrating the PC business unit of Founder, a China-based company, and it seems to be progressing faster than expected.

That said, the total of laptop shipped to Chinese customers is set to account for 13% of the total revenues for 2011, instead of 10%, like in 2010.

Basically, demand in China is growing and is sure to drive sales upwards this year, especially with how the overall state of the IT market is recovering from the effects of the recession, more or less.

As for the US and European markets, demand is said to be steady, leading to hopes that revenues, for the ongoing first quarter of 2011, will rise by 3% sequentially. The second quarter is expected to do even better, knowing that tablets will really start selling in March and April.
