The company wants to repeat what Lenovo did to become the second PC brand

Acer is one of the sponsors of the London 2012 Olympic Games, having sent 400 engineers to provide technical support throughout the games.

It couldn't really do other, of course, having sold the Olympic committee 13,500 desktops, 2,900 laptops, 950 servers and 13,000 LCD monitors.

Needless to say, this is a very nice bright spot on its record. In fact, Acer presumably hopes to exploit this turn of events in its campaign to capture the hearts of customers in the EMEA market (Europe, Middle East and Africa).

Acer likely remembers how Lenovo exploited these emerging markets and became the second (now running for first) greatest PC brand in the world within the span of just a few years.

Acer is currently the largest notebook vendor in Europe, even above HP, so it has a strong foundation for what it seeks. Now we just have to wait and see if it succeeds in everything else.
