It appears that Acer and Hitachi joined hands and created storage systems intended to help enterprise customers optimize data security and availability for various data bases even as escalating storage is more properly managed.

Storage device on the consumer front may be small and varied, even 3.5-inch ones for desktops, but the same cannot be said for enterprise applications.

In instances where massive amounts of storage are required, preferably of fast read/write speeds and low power draw, companies design such things as full storage systems.

Turns out that Acer and Hitachi collaborated on the making of what are known as the AS2040 and AMS 2000 family.

The former is a solution that uses a symmetric active-active architecture, for easy data management, while SAS and SATA drives can be configured in mixed tiers.

Up to 2,000 logical volumes are supported, as are on-line microcode updates and redundant, hot-swappable drive spares.

Meanwhile, the AMS 2000 family (AMS 2100 and AMS 2300 systems) have round-the-clock system diagnostics and the TrueCopy Remote Replication software, for remote data replication for disaster retention, recovery and migration over any distance).

The AMS 2100 can hold up to 512 virtual server ports and 236 terabytes, while AMS 2300 takes those numbers up to 2,048 ports and 472 terabytes.

"These tailored storage solutions meet customer demand for cost-effective storage performance, simplified storage management and return on storage investment over time," said Bruce Chumley, vice president of Americas strategic alliances for Hitachi Data Systems.

"Hitachi and Acer are committed to providing U.S. customers with solutions that enable them to simultaneously manage explosive data growth, IT costs, complex applications, legal compliance and security."

While Acer and Hitachi did the development and design, connectivity solutions from QLogic were used in the products' construction.

AS2040 starts at $11,699, while AMS 2100 and AMS 2300 have starting points of $18,499 and $31,499, respectively.
