Acer aims to make it in the growing hybrid tablet/laptop market

Multi-modal machines have spread like wild fire, as of late. We have seen brand vendors tease / launch 2-in-1s, 3-in-1s, 4-in-1s and Toshiba went as far as to show a 5-in-1 concept at CES back in January.

Basically, these devices are tablets that arrive with a keyboard companion and can be arranged in a variety of configurations (presentation mode, tent mode).

Lenovo, ASUS or HP all have products like this available on the market, so it shouldn't come as a shock when we tell you that Acer is apparently developing a 3-in-1 machine of its own.

The device is called Acer Aspire Switch 10, and as you can guess, it’s a 10.1-inch device running Windows 8.1 software, notes Notebook Italia. The screen (tablet mode) can be docked in the keyboard platform, to easily obtain a laptop experience, while the third mode of use allows the screen to face away from the keyboard, in what’s being called Presentation mode.

The tablet boasts an aluminum case and the keyboard dock has a smart hinge with hooks, but judging by what we see in the images, there’s no latch. Sadly, there’s no info about specs or availability date, but the Switch 10 gives off serious Iconia W510 vibes.

That was a Windows tablet launched back in 2012, which had an Intel Clover Trail processor running the show. Therefore, the sensible thing to suggest is that the Acer Aspire Switch 10 might be powered by a Bay Trail chip, or even something even faster. We'll update you when new information appears.
