There have been rumors that Acer is thinking about drastically changing its business outlook and abandoning some of its most recent ventures.

More precisely, the web has been murmuring that the company is going to back out of the tablet and smartphone business.

Digitimes now says that Acer Founder Stan Shih himself dismantled the reports.

The man reportedly said that the current difficulties with entering the slate segment is no different form the frustrations that Acer went through when it entered the notebook market.

The worrisome speculations probably came about as a consequence of Acer saying it would reduce its product lines by two thirds.

While that is still true, it means that Acer will simplify its lineup and shuffle employees as necessary, but won't fire anyone and won't actually quit the markets it works in.
