It doesn't approve of the Surface tablet but will still collaborate on Windows slates

Acer has, so far, been the most outspoken IT player among those who disapprove of Microsoft's decision to enter the hardware market.

Nevertheless, the company will not cut ties with the software maker. Even though it is not happy with Surface, it will try to be part of the Windows RT (Windows 8 on ARM) slate market, according to a report.

For those who don't know, Acer essentially told Microsoft not to enter the hardware market at all, because it is no good at it and because it will have a negative impact on the PC ecosystem.

Some analysts share this view, but the other camp is, meanwhile, speculating that Acer is just unhappy about the fact that it is not part of the short list of companies allowed to launch Windows RT ARM tablets at the same time as Surface (unlike, say, HP and Dell).
