As Acer continues to lose money, the company obviously needs to change tactics, especially since it doesn't have any new business outlets it can try with its resources and IP. Here's how it will do it.

First off, the company will do its best to sell new smartphones and tablets. That's what company President and CEO Jason Chen reportedly said anyhow, at the Acer Global Partner Conference on January 21.

Chromebooks will be another main outlet, and other handheld gadgets will factor in its plans as well.

Meanwhile, the company doesn't expect to do anything more than maintain sales of notebooks, desktops and LCD monitors. It might not even manage to prevent a further drop there in fact.

At this point, Acer's finances depend on whether or not the company can really ship 5 million phones this year.
