One week after the introduction of its latest high-end, yet unnamed Android smartphone, Acer is now revealing an entry-level Android-based smartphone, the beTouch E140. The device is the sequel to E110 and E130 smartphone and part of the beTouch series.

Acer beTouch E140 shares the same market niche as LG's Optimus One, which is one of the best selling entry-level Android smartphones on the market.

However, the beTouch E140 has a small advantage when it comes to price, as it will be available for only EUR 199 (about $265), compared with Optimus One which is usually selling for around EUR 206 (about $271).

The device has been unveiled in Italy, where it will most likely be launched before Christmas. It is unclear if the manufacturer will release the smartphone this year in other countries as well.

The beTouch E140 is powered by a 600MHz processor and runs on the Android 2.2 Froyo platform.

It comes with a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen display, HSDPA and HSUPA technologies, Wi-Fi b/g connectivity, FM radio, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP support and 3.2-megapixel camera without flash.

The device measures 104.5 x 55.8 x 12.8 mm, weighs 115g (battery included) and comes with a Li-Ion 1300 mAh battery.

In comparison, LG Optimus One is powered by a 600 MHz processor and runs the same Android 2.2 Froyo platform.

It comes with a slightly larger 3.2-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen with 262k colors and 320 x 480 pixel resolution, accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate and proximity sensor for auto turn-off of the screen.

The device measures 113.5 x 59 x 13.3 mm, weighs 129g (battery included) and comes with a Li-Ion 1500 mAh battery that should last up to 700 hours standby mode or 8 hours talk time.

Other key features of the Optimus One include: HSDPA 7.2 Mbps, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, GPS with A-GPS support, 170 MB internal memory, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 2GB card included), Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP support and 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus and video recording function.
