As most have in today's computer industry, it appears that Acer too has fallen hard for Intel's low-power Atom processors, as it continues to integrate them in some of its latest products. Such is the case with the company's new easyStore Home server, designed on Intel's Atom platform and featuring four 3.5-inch drive bays. Although it comes equipped with just 1TB of storage space, the home server can hold up to 7TB of data, thanks to the additional drive bays.

Acer's easyStore AH340-UA230N home server joins a number of other Atom-powered products, in the company's line of low-power computer systems, ranging from the successful Aspire One line, to the more recent AspireRevo. The easyStore has been designed to take advantage of Intel's Atom 230 processor and can be equipped with up to 2GB of DDR2 memory. The system comes with a built-in Windows Home Media Server, which will enable computer users to easily manage the 1TB of storage space made available upon purchasing the new home server.

However, 1TB is just what you will get for starters, as the 8x7x7-inch shiny black box of the Acer easeStore Home Server can be equipped with up to 4 different 3.5-inch hard drives, for a total of 7TB of storage space. In addition, the server is also featured with one eSATA port, five USB ports, a Gigabit Ethernet port, an RJ-45 LAN port and all for a starting price tag of just US$399.

Given that it delivers pretty much the same specifications as one of HP's latest MediaSmart server systems, Acer's easyStore could become a potential competitor for HP's LX195 home server. As far as pricing goes, the two are rated at the same price tag, but the easyStore home server from Acer offers an increased storage capacity of 1TB, which can easily be expanded to an impressive 7TB.
