Acer is one of the many companies being investigated for patent infringement in the United States.

It bears noting that this is not an actual patent war, like the one Samsung and Apple are in.

Instead, the US International Trade Commission (ITC) is looking into the activities of certain IT players, seeking to determine if Acer really does unlawfully use the plaintiffs' IP (intellectual property).

Ironically, Acer is the one who started it all. Back in 2007, it sued Technology Properties Limited (TPL) on the grounds that its patents are invalid.

After that, TPL counter-sued Acer and reported the matter to the US ITC. Eventually, Patriot Scientific Corporation (PTSC) and Phoenix Digital Solutions (PDS) added their voices to the fight as well.

The patents being disputed over relate to wireless consumer electronics devices and components. Acer is not too worried, according to a report, and plans to fight the allegations to the end.
