Acer has mostly focused on the mobile segment lately, as is evident from the many
ultrathins, AMD
netbooks and even DirectX 11
gaming laptops it unveiled. Now, in order to reinforce its hold over the desktop front, after starting off with the
Aspire X, the Taiwanese PC maker has brought out a new version of one of its more massive gaming rigs, specifically the so-called Aspire Predator. This new machine brings performance benefits in all areas but maintains the intimidating appearance of its predecessors.
To put it bluntly, the new Predator is just like the older members of the line as far as looks go, since it makes use of the same black/orange, massive and intricate chassis, but has a different set of insides. Or, at the very least, end-users have a wider set of options when choosing said insides. Regardless, the potential of this new iteration is great.
For one, the configuration is centered on a high-end CPU, one of the possibilities being the 2.8GHz Intel Core i7 930. This processor is backed up by up to 12GB of DDR3 RAM and up to 1.5TB of hard drive storage space.
Furthermore, to ensure support for any and all games, Acer threw in the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 graphics card, based on the Fermi architecture and compatible with DirectX 11. Pre-orders can already be set for at least $2000, on
Amazon.
“Designed to conquer and destroy, the Aspire Predator boasts a rugged, intimidating chassis as well as super power and speed,” said Steve Smith, senior business manager of consumer desktops for Acer America. “It's a smoking hot gaming rig delivering eye-popping graphics and dynamic audio for a jaw dropping experience that will fire up even hard core gamers. Plus, plenty of room for future upgrades will assist gamers in their quest to reign supreme in the new world order.”
