Acer may expect its revenues to drop in the fourth quarter of 2011 because of the HDD shortage that will cut PC shipments, but it still expects ultrabooks to reach the expected sales figure.
Acer said that it wants sales of 250,000-300,000 ultrabooks in the fourth quarter of 2011.
Them not relying on HDDs at all probably has something to do with this expectation (ultrabooks use SSDs).
Unfortunately, the likelihood of this goal being reached isn't very high, as ultrabooks need custom components and don't sell for less than $1,000 (732 Euro).
This is why their initial sales
were so disappointing.
Nonetheless, Acer is still
certain that it can, in fact, sell enough and probably hopes the holiday season will help with that.
Even if it doesn't, some analysts
believe that the mid to long-term future of these super-thin laptops is bright, so Acer needn't be disheartened anyway.
