Acer has recently launched a new desktop computer system that could rival many of those small-sized, low-power and low-priced nettops, in terms of pricing. However, the Veriton X270 comes fairly close to a fully fledged desktop PC, thanks to the support it provides for Intel's Core 2 Duo processors and discrete graphics. This enables the system to deliver a higher level of performance, but with a price tag that comes closer to that of a nettop rather than a desktop.

The newly launched X270 is part of Acer's Veriton line of business desktops and comes to provide its potential customers with a system that emphasizes performance, design and security. With a price tag that starts at just $399, the new Acer business desktop offers support for one of Intel's many Core 2 Duo processors. In addition, the X270 supports up to 4GB of DDR2 memory and comes equipped with a 500GB hard disk drive, providing users with just enough storage space to store their media library.

Acer has managed to create this system by taking advantage of an NVIDIA 630i-based motherboard, which offers support for all of the aforementioned components, but also comes with its own integrated graphics solution, the GeForce 7100 IGP. This feature enables the X270 to provide users with support for HD audio, thanks to NVIDIA's own PureVideo HD technology. In addition, the X270 has been designed in a 10-liter case, reducing the necessary room space for this system.

On the front side of the Veriton X270, users get access to a number of connectivity options, including four USB 2.0 ports, multi-format card reader, eSATA, Microphone and Headphone jacks and even the necessary optical disk drive. As with most PCs shipped today, the Veriton X270 comes with a Microsoft Windows Vista Business operating system.
