It won't happen before next year, though, so again, don't get too excited

Remember how we said that ultrabook makers were looking for ways to make those laptops cheaper? Acer thinks that, rather than $600 / 456.48 Euro, the average should and will be $499 / 380 Euro.

This is something we will take with a nice, big grain of salt, especially since the company is optimistic enough to think that mark will be reached by next year.

We are actually quite surprised, and we aren't the only ones, that it was Acer, of all companies, to even say this.

After all, the Aspire S3, though among the cheapest of its kind, is also low enough priced that it barely lets the company make a profit ($799 / 609 Euro).

Acer Global President Jianren Weng is the one who reportedly made the prediction, even as Acer’s Christoph Pohlmann disagrees, saying that 2013 is too optimistic a time frame, let alone 2012.
