Taiwan-based Acer, one of the world's leading vendors of computer systems, is expected to update its portable PC lineup with the introduction of a series of new systems, designed to take advantage of Intel's upcoming CULV (consumer ultra low voltage) platform. The company will reportedly roll out a series of portable PCs with displays ranging from 11.6-inch to larger 15-inch models. Most of these systems should be officially introduced sometime next month, according to recent details.

According to a recent news-article on CENS.com, Acer has reportedly adopted Intel's CULV platform for the development of a series of new notebook PCs. The world's third largest notebook vendor is expected to roll out a bunch of new systems, covering almost all market segments. The upcoming CULV-based Acer notebooks will boast screen sizes of 11.6, 13, 14 and 15 inches, and they are expected to make their debut sometime next month, although we are still to learn more about their technical specifications.

The company will contract Quanta Computer for its 11.6-inch CULV notebooks, Inventec for the 13-inch models and Winstron for the larger 14- and 15-inch models. According to the aforementioned website, Acer's CULV 13-inch machines will boast magnesium aluminum alloy, which could be supplied by Catcher Technology Co., Ltd. or Foxconn International Holdings.

Acer's upcoming range of portable systems will complete the company's ultra-portable PC offering, which is currently dominated by the successful Atom-based Aspire One netbooks. Unfortunately, there are no details on pricing, but more should be revealed as we are getting closer to an official release.

Intel's CULV platform is expected to make its debut in a number of new systems designed by major PC vendors such as HP, Lenovo and Dell. These three companies are to release their own CULV notebooks in May.
