With visible signs of recovery in the PC market, a recent report indicates that Acer, currently the world's third largest vendor of computer systems, is bound to become the leader in the notebook market this September. The Taiwanese company is expected to grab the number-one spot with its shipments, having a chance to surpass the 3.6 million units, thanks to a growing interest for the company's ultra-thin notebooks and netbooks in North America and Europe. If the report is correct, Acer could steal the limelight from HP, which has been dominating the market for a while now.

According to a recent news article on Digitimes, citing the now-familiar industry sources, Acer is expected to surpass its competitors in September and grab the number-one spot in the notebook market. The Taiwanese PC vendor is said to have a chance of shipping 3.6 million portable computer systems, thanks to the rising demand for its ultraportable laptops and low-power netbooks in North America and Europe.

In addition, the company is said to have a possibility to ship over nine million notebooks in the third quarter of 2009, narrowing the gap with HP to only 200,000 units, said sources claim.

Acer has previously announced its plans to become the number-one PC vendor on the market, focusing on its updated line of ultraportable laptops and small-sized, Atom-powered netbooks. It now looks like the Taiwanese company is close to its target, if the report is correct.

In related news, HP has reportedly placed an order for an estimated 3.2 – 3.3 million notebooks from Taiwan's top four ODMs in August, this year. The company is expected to increase its order to 3.5 million in September, due to the expected increase in demand and the launch of Microsoft's much-anticipated Windows 7 operating system.
