Acer always makes a point of causing waves whenever it unleashes a new computer, especially if said computer is a laptop. Still, even a PC maker of its caliber sometimes decides to change the tune by unveiling a device of another kind. This once, the Taiwanese outfit thought it would provide Samsung with some competition in the field of green displays solutions. As such, it brought out a new LCD (liquid crystal display) that makes a point of consuming less energy than competitors.

The newcomer is part of the S3 series and goes by the name of S273HL. Essentially, it is a LED-backlit panel that has a thickness of only 21 mm. The LED backlight itself is most instrumental in reducing the overall power consumption.

In fact, compared to CFFL-lit displays, this particular invention actually uses up about 68% less electricity. Naturally, such efficiency would be wasted on just any product, which is why Acer didn't shrink from throwing in a fair share of performance upsides as well.

The native resolution of the screen is 1920 x 1080 pixels, which means that consumers will be able to make the best of even videos in Full HD quality. Another asset is the DCR (dynamic contrast ratio) of an impressive 12,000,000:1. Even the response time is a good 2ms. Furthermore, the monitor actually has two HDMI connectors instead of just one.

It should probably be noted that the Taiwanese PC and hardware maker didn't neglect the overall looks of tis newest offspring either. The thin black bezel is complemented by the L-shaped base with a brushed-metal finish and, of course, the LED light that glows soft blue while the power is on. Other features include the Acer Adaptive Contrast Management (ACM) and Acer eColor Management technology, which enhance brightness and adapt performance depending on light condition, respectively. Unfortunately, pricing details have not been unveiled.
