Eager to supply the market with a new, top-grade mobile computer, Acer has stepped forth in order to launch the Aspire AS8943G-3215 and AS8943G-5638, two notebooks with high-end multimedia and even gaming capabilities, thanks to the presence of Intel Core processors and AMD DirectX 11 graphics.

The performance of all types of laptops has been going up steadily and, now that even netbooks support HD and even full HD video playback, it makes sense that higher-end models would refine their abilities as well.

The two new models from Acer are configured in such a way as to allow their owners to perform a variety of tasks, from watching movies and playing games, to more sophisticated things like creating multimedia content.

The AS8943G-3215 has, at its heart, the Intel Core i5-430M Dual Core Processor, whose clock speed is of 2.26 GHz, or 2.53 GHz with Turbo Boost.

The AS8943G-5638 is slightly less powerful, with an Intel Core i3-350M Dual Core Processor, which has the same clock speed but lacks Turbo Boost.

To ensure an optimum level of horsepower, Acer threw in 4GB to 8GB of RAM. Also, for storage, one or two HDD of up to 640GB (500Gb on the AS8943G-5638) are added to the mix.

As for connectivity and I/O, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi is present, as are, Gigabit Ethernet, a 1.3 megapixel HD webcam, eSATA, USB and FireWire.

Finally, for a measure of security, the two newcomers are equipped with a bio-protection fingerprint reader.

“The Acer Aspire AS8943G Series of notebooks are first-class multimedia centers that deliver an unparalleled high-definition personal theatre experience,” said Chris Chiang, retail product marketing manager for Acer Canada.

“Designed for the most discriminating and style-conscious consumer, they combine an elegant, simplistic design with top-of-the line technologies and usability features, taking PC-based entertainment to a whole new level.”

The two computers have been launched in Canada but have and have prices of $999 (AS8943G-3215) and $939 (AS8943G-5638).
