Acer is said to be planning the launch of a new series of desktop computer systems, designed for mainstream users and part of the PC vendor's Aspire family of desktop PCs. Set to become available in Japan next week, the four new Aspire M-series desktops will be featured with processors from both Intel and AMD, two models for each processor brand. Two Aspire ASM3202s will boast AMD processors, while two Aspire ASM5800s desktops will be featured with Intel Core 2 CPUs.

Kicking off with Acer's new AMD-based desktops, we have the ASM3202s-A42, which will provide users with a 2.6GHz Phenom II X4 810 processor, coupled with 2GB of RAM and an AMD 780G-based motherboard, featuring the integrated Radeon HD 3000-series GPUs. In addition to that, there's the 640GB hard disk drive and the DVD optical drive, all for a price tag of US$625. Coming to provide users with an option for increased performance, there's the ASM3202s-A43, which offers a choice for a 2.8GHz Phenom II X4 925 processor and a 750GB hard drive. This model will be made available with a price tag of US$730.

With the Intel-based offering, Acer will be providing users with the ASM5800-A37, which has been designed to incorporate the 2.66GHz Core 2 Quad Q8400, coupled with 4GB of RAM, a Radeon HD 4650 1GB graphics card, a 750GB hard drive and a Blu-ray optical drive. That will cost about US$1,148, somewhat justified by the overall configuration. Upping the ante a bit, there's the ASM5800-A38, which boasts a 2.83GHz Core 2 Quad Q9550 processor with a GeForce GTS 230 with 1.5GB of memory and a 1TB HDD. Price-wise, the system is set to be available for US$1,460.

All systems will be running on Microsoft's Windows Vista Home Premium operating system and are set to become available in Japan next week.
