In time for the Christmas holidays

As noted many times before, both here on Softpedia and all over the Internet, Acer's 8.9-inch Aspire One netbook is one of the company's most successful products this year, having contributed to a significant boost in revenues. It seems only natural that Acer would want to further expand its Aspire One lineup with the release of new models designed to provide different sets of features for several potential customer types. Nevertheless, it's unlikely that the systems vendor plans on doing as its competitor ASUS, and release a dozen Aspire One netbooks that only bring slight differences.

Still, according to the French-language Blogee, Acer is going to offer three netbook systems based on the company's Aspire One, which should become available in time for the Christmas holidays. The upcoming models will sport an 8.9-inch display as the initial Aspire One netbook, but will provide customers with the option of Solid State Drive and Windows XP operating system. Obviously, the new models will be priced higher than the basic Aspire One model, but all signs point to Acer being quite confident in the popularity of its netbook.

The two models that will sport SSD as a storage option will deliver capacities of 8GB and 16GB, and will come with a pre-installed Linpus Linux Lite and Windows XP Home, respectively. Both models will be powered by Intel's 1.6GHz, N270 Atom processor, and will come with a maximum of 1GB of RAM memory. Both Linux and Windows-enabled systems will sport the same basic features, and will pack a 3-cell battery option, but the Windows XP model will also come with a 3G Module, in addition to the wireless 802.11 a/b/g connectivity.

Price-wise, you will be spending from €299 to €479 for the upcoming Aspire One netbooks. The 8GB, Linux-powered model will be less expensive, while the Windows XP-enabled Aspire One A110 with 16GB of storage space on SSD will be the higher-priced.
