Asked panel suppliers to make screens with embedded DisplayPort instead of LVDS

Looks like Intel's notice that the 2013-bound Haswell platform will only support the embedded DisplayPort specification is forcing Acer to take preemptive measures.

Currently, laptops use screens that employ the LVDS interface (low-voltage differential signaling).

Only a few notebooks have made the switch to the aforementioned eDP, Apple's MacBook series being among them.

According to Digitmes, though, the situation will start to change beginning in 2012.

Intel's decision to only support eDP on the Haswell will probably accelerate the switch starting next year.

On the bright side, eDP will lead to a lower need for notebook connectors, so notebooks may become easier to make, even if just minimally.

Unfortunately, eDP displays are more expensive than LVDS ones, hence why the migration can't even be said to have started yet.

Hopefully this issue will be resolved in a timely fashion.
