Computer maker Acer announced last week during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona the launch of new mobile phones running under Google's Android operating system, among which the Acer Liquid e device stood up as the most appealing. The handset that has been launched as the successor of Acer Liquid A1, which was released on the market in the second half of the last year, is the first device from the company to run under the Android 2.1 operating system, and can be seen in the hands-on video embedded at the bottom of this article.

The new mobile phone comes with a nice range of features and specs, including a 3.5-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display that boasts a 480 x 800-pixel resolution, as well as a 5-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8250 processor clocked at 768 MHz, and 256MB of RAM and 512MB of ROM. At the same time, the new device also comes with built-in A-GPS, with Bluetooth connectivity, a microSD memory card slot that enables up to 32GB of additional storage space to be added, and with support for SMS (threaded view), MMS, Email and IM.

The handset also comes with HSPA connectivity on board, as well as with a series of features powered by the Android 2.1 operating system it has been packed with, including: - Home screens – The new version now handles five home screens by default, allowing users to easily install more applications from the rich selection available on the Android Market as well as shortcuts and widgets. - Quick Contacts – a feature that lets users easily switch between the address book and the social network applications. - Live wallpapers to customize Liquid e on the fly. - A new keyboard layout with an extended dictionary for predictive input. - An updated version of the Android browser, supporting HTML5, double-tap zooming, video tagging support and geo-location API support.

The video below emerged into the wild via Mobile Burn, and shows you a few details on the newly introduced Android device. Although Acer hasn't unveiled yet a release date or a price tag for the Liquid e, it shouldn't be too long before it lands on the market. Measuring 115 x 62.5 x 12.5 mm, weighing in at 135g and boasting Google's Eclair OS, the new device is expected to land in three color versions, it seems, including black, white and red.
