Computer maker Acer made official a new smartphone running under Google’s Android operating system, namely the Acer Liquid Z3, an affordable device that packs a small 3.5-inch touchscreen display.

The new handset lands on the market with a 1GHz dual-core processor inside, 4GB of internal memory and a 3-megapixel photo snapper on the back.

Furthermore, the new smartphone sports Wi-Fi connectivity, integrated GPS receiver, optional dual-SIM capabilities and support for HSPA+ (up to 21 Mbps) connectivity.

Despite being an entry-level device, the Liquid Z3 (which is the fifth handset that Acer launched this year), comes with a series of unique features, including four pre-defined user profiles that should provide a fluid experience to users of all ages.

Here’s what these Quick Mode profiles have to offer:

- Basic Mode: For youngsters with call and text functions; - Senior Mode: Messages, radio, weather, magnify, clock, quick call contacts; - Classic mode: All main functions in a simple and organized layout for first time smartphone users; - Keypad mode: For people who primarily use voice and need their keypad right away.

Moreover, the handset will arrive on shelves with support for AcerCloud, the file sharing and media management solution from Acer that enables users to stay close to their multimedia and data files at all times.

Running under Google’s Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system, the new Liquid Z3 smartphone measures 109 x 60 x 10.4 mm and weighs 120 grams. It might never get updated to Android 4.3, AndroidCommunity notes.

“While much of the industry is trending toward larger and more complex devices, we believe there’s also a whole lot of room for thinking small and simple,” says Allen Burnes, vice-president, smartphone division, Acer Europe.

“Liquid Z3 bridges the gap for a new generation of smartphone users, providing they really can have it all without sacrificing the size and simplicity they want.”

Acer plans on making the smartphone available in Belgium, Netherlands, Ukraine, France, Spain, the UK, Italy, Germany and Russia in Rock Black and Classic White starting mid-August, with a price tag of €99 ($132) attached to it. Replaceable back-covers in Rock Black, Classic White, Sakura Pink, Pop Yellow and Lagoon Turquoise will also be accesible for it.
