Originally launched in the UK in April, the Liquid Mini Android-based smartphone has just received a software upgrade, as Acer has recently announced that the phone will be delivered with Gingerbread on board.

Furthermore, in addition to the standard blue, pink, green, black and silver colors, the manufacturer announced that the Liquid Mini will be available in a new assortment of colors such as: cherry, lagoon, pearl and steel.

The phone has also received a software 'facelift' as it now features the latest Acer 4.2 user-friendly interface.

However, there's no information regarding the Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade for the existing customers, as the software update is not yet available for download.

Acer has yet to reveal the release schedule of the updated Liquid Mini units and the retailers that will receive it in stock.

Announced at the beginning of the year at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the Liquid Mini entry-level smartphone was initially delivered with Android 2.2 Froyo platform.

The phone has a 3.2-inch capacitive multi-touch screen with 262K colors support, 320 x 480 pixels resolution, and accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate.

Equipped with a Qualcomm 600 MHz ARM 11 processor, complemented by an Adreno 200 GPU, Liquid Mini is on the slower side of things.

It sports a 5-megapixel camera with video recording capabilities (480p@30fps) and integrated GPS with A-GPS support.

The HSDPA-enabled device packs 512 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 2GB card included).

Software-wise, the device is bundled with Microsoft Exchange support, as well as DocumentsToGo and RoadSync, so users can easily view and edit popular office files (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and PDF).

Acer Liquid Mini is powered by a 1300 Li-Polymer battery that should provide up to 400 hours of standby time or up to 8 hours of talk time.
