Computer maker Acer was rumored a while ago to plan the release of a new Android-based smartphone on the market, the Acer Liquid Metal

S120, and some more details on the matter have just emerged as the device received the necessary FCC approvals.

The mobile phone that passed through FCC hallways should arrive on shelves with GSM/EDGE 850/1900 and WCDMA Band II and V connectivity options on board, making it a perfect fit for AT&T's network.

In addition to confirming that the new handset would arrive at AT&T, the FCC listing also unveiled a series of hardware specifications for the new device, which is shaping up as a pretty appealing Android phone.

It appears that it should arrive on shelves with an 800MHz Qualcomm MSM7230-1 processor inside, while boasting a 3.6-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a 800 x 480 pixels resolution.

According to the FCC listing, the specs list for this device also includes Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system.

Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth connectivity options were also included with the device, as well as GPS receiver.

As the guys over at Engadget note in a recent article, the S120 DVT2 (Design Verification Test 2) prototype was the model that FCC tested and approved.

As stated above, we already had the chance to meet the Acer Liquid Metal before, but there still are a series of details yet unknown on it.

For example, the device was rumored to be on its way to the UK before October is over (which means that it should be announced officially during this week), but there is no info on when it would land on the US market.

Rumor has it that November might be the lucky time frame for Android enthusiasts on AT&T's airwaves, but this hasn't been confirmed officially for the time being, so keep an eye on this space for additional details on the matter.
