Even despite all the shifts and turns on the PC market, it seems that Acer succeeded in remaining the foremost supplier of personal computers in Russia, according to IDC.
Since the end of the year 2010 is upon us, the various members on the IT industry are quite tirelessly looking through their accounts and getting an idea of where they stand.
In Acer's case, one might say that feelings are mixed in regards to its performance on the PC market.
It and HP actually seem to have been caught in a sort of game, as each quarter they swapped positions as far as desktop market leadership goes in Russia.
Acer failed to actually outmatch HP in terms of desktop shipments, ending up on the second place (HP was first in Q1 and Q3)
Still, as far as the overall PC market goes, things are seemingly more on Acer's favor.
In short, it seems that Acer was actually found to have snatched top position as PC vendor in the largest country in the world.
As a recent
report states, Acer was top supplier of PCs in Russia during the third quarter of 2010, meaning between July and September.
The second place in terms of combined desktop and notebook sales went to ASUS, while third place was won by Samsung.
Overall shipments for all vendors amounted to 3.45 million units, which corresponds to a sequential growth of 54.7% and 64.4% growth compared to the same period of last year.
In terms of actual shipped units, this puts the figure at 2.33 million, up 70.1% compared to the previous quarter and 83.8% on year.
Q4 performance is expected to mirror that of Q3, although there are concerns about possible excess inventories.
For those interested in more marketing figures, the desktop market in Russia totaled 1.13 million units in Q3, 34.9% more on -year and 31.1% higher sequentially, of which only 5% were all-in-ones.
