Today, computer maker Acer made official its first large smartphone running under Google’s Android operating system, the Acer Liquid S1, featuring a 5.7-inch HD 1280 x 720 pixels screen.

The new smartphone arrives on the market with a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor packed inside, and should be able to provide users with a day's worth of battery power, the company announced.

Furthermore, the new device has been designed with both smartphone and tablet PC features, so as to provide users with both work efficiency and multimedia-rich capabilities, for an enhanced overall experience.

The handset also arrives on shelves with access to AcerCloud Docs and with Acer Remote Files, so that users could enjoy access to their files even when on the go.

Running under Google’s Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system, the Acer Liquid S1 also sports a variety of applications meant to boost productivity.

The smartphone comes with the Acer Float User Interface, which enables users to have several app windows open at the same time, for a great multitasking experience.

“The press of a key brings up the Float Apps shortcut; apps on a translucent screen float over the function being used. It is easy to access or switch Float Apps anytime. These apps include camera, maps, calculator and notes,” Acer announced.

“A Float Caller notification ensures that users will not be interrupted by incoming calls that take over the full screen. When a call comes in, the Float Caller mini-window pops up and the user can choose to take the call or reply with a quick message.”

The smartphone also packs 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space, and a 2400mAh battery.

Acer Liquid S1 sports an 88-degree wide-angle FF camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G connectivity (no LTE, it seems), and will arrive on shelves in both single and dual-SIM flavors.

“The Acer Liquid S1 uses fine craftsmanship and materials to deliver a premium, minimalist design, ideal for assertive businesspeople and passionate explorers. With a slender profile, it features curved details on the front and the sides, aluminum side grips, and is available in matte black or white,” Acer announced.

The mobile phone is set to arrive on shelves in the third quarter of the year in European countries such as France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Ukraine, Russia, the UK and Germany, with Italy and Spain to follow shortly after. It will feature a price tag of €349 ($455).
