Each year, companies on the IT market set a sort of goal for themselves, quite often to elevate themselves to a position of prominence, and Acer is said to have placed this very type of goal for itself.

This year is shaping up to be quite interesting, perhaps even unpredictable in some ways, because of the things that happened in 2010, and after the new technologies unveiled at CES.

Last year really was quite surprising in the way that tablets took off as soon as the Apple iPad launched

Another development was how Advanced Micro Devices finally started providing a mobile platform of its own, as well as six-core CPUs.

Furthermore, NVIDIA caught up on the DirectX 11 market, and while the first batch of Fermi cards wasn't stellar, the 500 series seems to now be making up for any losses.

All of these things had an effect on the mobile computer market, as some PCs sold less than expected while others saw themselves through the year without any trouble.

Netbooks, for instance, slowed down in their growth because slates begun to impact on their market share.

Meanwhile, notebooks didn't seem to go through overly big changes in terms of shipments and revenues.

Still, those that trade in such things had to adjust for the arrival of the slate, even make models of their own with Windows or Android loaded onto them.

Acer intends to score big on the tablet market in 2011, according to a report made by Digitimes, but its real ambition lies with the notebook front.

Apparently, the outfit wants to end the year as the top maker of notebooks in the world, or so said (allegedly) Acer chairman JT Wang during a conference that took place between January 20 and 21.

Unfortunately, no sort of shipments numbers or even the slightest of estimates accompanied this report.
