Acer Iconia Tab Windows 7 Tablet Uses SanDisk SSD P4

SanDisk seems to be especially eager to please at this edition of the Mobile World Congress, as its solid state storage portfolio seems to include more than just newer and more compact embedded SSDs.

Not long ago, SanDisk issued a press release in which it announced how its next-generation iNAND and iNAND Ultra embedded storage devices.

Now, a different press release has stated that Acer is also among the companies that chose SanDisk products for its slates.

At some point during the ongoing year, Acer should deliver the Iconia Tab, a Windows 7-loaded tablet based on AMD's next-generation mobile platform.

Apparently, the storage solution chosen is the SanDisk SSD P4 modular drive with a capacity of 32 GB.

This SSD is based on its maker's Adaptive Flash Management (AFM) implementation and uses nCache acceleration technology, “ a large non-volatile write cache technology that boosts burst random write performance of 4KB up to 600 IOPS.”

“The Iconia Tab Windows 7 tablet is designed for optimum versatility in an ultra-portable tablet form factor. The docking keyboard, optimal ergonomics with superior touch experience provides ease-of-use both on the go and at your desk,” said David Lee, AVP, mobile computing business unit, Acer Inc.

“The SanDisk SSD P4 module meets Acer's tablet design requirements for stability, speedy access and low-power consumption for running seamless flows of pervasive mobile Internet applications.”

“The SanDisk SSD P4 is designed for thin, high-performance productivity tablets such as Acer’s Iconia Tab Windows 7 tablet,” said Kevin Conley, senior vice president, solid state drives, SanDisk.

“As the tablet and mobile markets converge, cost-effective modular SSD solutions from SanDisk allow OEMs to create high-quality products that are tailored to their customers’ needs.”

For those that want more specifics, Acer's Iconia is a 10.1-inch device with two Hi-Def webcams and a docking station that gives it 3G, WiFi and a full-size chiclet keyboard.

Of course, SanDisk's P4 SSD is available for any other OEMs as well, in capacities of 4 to 128 GB and various form factors (like mSATA mini).
