Acer’s Iconia Tab A510 quad-core tablet has just become available for pre-order in the US at a $450 (342 EUR) price point, making it the cheapest Android slate around to be powered by Nvidia’s Tegra 3 system-on-a-chip (SoC) device.

This is the same chipset used by Asus for the popular Transformer Prime, which comes clocked at 1.3GHz.

Just like Asus, Acer paired this 1GB of RAM memory as well as with a 10.1-inch screen, this time using a vanilla LCD panel, with a 1280x1800 resolution.

For storage purposes, the Taiwanese company went with 32GB of Flash memory, but users also have the option of expanding it by installing a microSD card that can provide an additional 32GB of space.

Furthermore, the tablet’s micro-USB port is compatible with hard drives of up to 2TB in size.

Besides these USB and microSD ports, along the sides of the Iconia Tab A510 users will find a mini-HDMI output for connecting an external display or HDTV to the tablet.

Bluetooth and 802.11 b/g/n WiFi are also included, while going for the yet unannounced Iconia Tab A511 will also add 3G to the list.

Acer’s tablet is also equipped with dual cameras, the front one featuring a 2MP resolution sensor, while the rear snapper can capture images at 5MP resolution, as well as Full HD videos.

As far as the software is concerned, the regular Android 4.0 UI will be joined by a series of Acer apps, such as the company’s proprietary Ring interface and the Clear-fi technology for multimedia content sharing.

According to AnandTech, the tablet is powered by a 36.26Whr battery, which is slightly bigger than the one used by Asus for the Transformer Prime, but which has the downside of adding quite a bit to the overall size and weight of the tablet.

Acer’s Iconia Tab A510 should be available right now from various retailers across the US, with prices starting at $449.99 for the 32GB version.
