Acer's Iconia Tab A501 is one of the Tegra 2-based tablets that sold more successfully than others, so there should be quite a few people happy to learn that the OS of the item is getting upgraded.

According to a Twitter post by Hilary Bridel (Twitter handle HilaryB), the 10.1-inch device is moving from Android 3.0 Honeycomb to Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich.

To start the download, owners only need to access the Settings → About Device → Check for Updates section.

A Wi-Fi connection is required of course. 3G might work as well, but it will most likely go beyond the cap of whatever data plan the slate was sold with.

We expect to hear of other Android tablets getting Ice Cream Sandwich in the near future, just as we learned of the Toshiba Thrive yesterday.
