In February of 2012, European Android fans will get a new device to play with which takes the shape of Acer’s Iconia A200 tablet, an entry level 10.1-incher running Nvidia’s Tegra 2 SoC and fully upgradeable to Android 4.0, aka Ice Cream Sandwich.

The tablet will join the ranks of other Acer Iconia tablets, such as the Tab A100, A500 and W500, and initially it will run the 3.2 version of Google’s mobile OS.

On the inside of the 10.1-icnher, with a native resolution of 1280x800 pixels, Acer has placed Nvidia’s previous generation Tegra 2 system-on-a-chip (SoC) device featuring dual processing cores at 1GHz, which is accompanied by 1GB of RAM.

Storage is set at either 8GB or 16GB, depending on the model chosen, but Acer will also allow its users to install an additional microSD card to extend data storage capacity to 32GB.

All these are packed inside a case that weights 700g (1.54 pounds) and that can be had in either red or a special metallic grey.

As far as software is concerned, the stock Android 3.2 Honeycomb OS is paired together with a couple of specific Acer technologies such as the company’s control ring interface and its Clear.fi wireless sharing app.

As Notebook Italia has revealed, Acer’s Iconia Tab A500 will go on sale in France and probably other countries in the EU at the end of February 2012 and the 8GB model will retail for 329 EUR ($430 US). The more specious 16GB version of the tablet will be sold for 349 EUR ($456 US).

Acer hasn’t said when the upgrade to Android 4.0, aka Ice Cream Sandwich, will arrive to the tablet, but we hope that this will happen until the end of Q1 2012.
