The highly-anticipated Acer Iconia Smart S300 made its appearance back in February, but the phone has yet to make its debut in the United States.

We had the chance to play a bit with the phone at the Mobile World Congress, in Barcelona, but at that time, the handset was dubbed Iconia Smart.

It appears that Acer decided to go with a different moniker in the United States, so the smartphone recently spotted at FCC by the guys over at WirelessGoodness, is now called Iconia Smart S300.

According to FCC filings, the superphone will be delivered with SanDisk flash memory, as well as SDRAM manufactured by Hynix, along with a Qualcomm power management chip.

Moreover, the Iconia Smart S300 is powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and rocks a single-core 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon processor.

It also packs 512 MB of RAM, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB), along with GSM and WCDMA support.

Aside from that, the handset features an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, as well as a 2-megapixel front facing camera for video calls.

Given its extra-large 4.8-inch capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors support and with 1024 x 480 pixel resolution, Iconia Smart S300 may receive mixed feedback.

Positioned between tablets and smartphone, when it comes to size, the device has the ability to meet even the most demanding requirements.

Hopefully, Acer will go live with Iconia Smart S300 by the end of the year, though the company is known for delaying its mobile products (i.e. Iconia Tab A100 and A500).

No details about the price options have been revealed yet. It's also unclear if any of the U.S.-based operators will carry the Iconia Smart S300, or the phone will be retailed unlocked via selected retailers across the country.
