Unveiled back in February at the Mobile World Congress, in Barcelona, Acer Iconia Smart has just been officially announced in India.

The smartphone was delayed several times in multiple countries, and the wait is not over yet, as Acer India mentioned that the phone will be available “soon.”

However, Android fans who want to grab the huge smartphone must pay no less than Rs 28,990 (around $580 or 422 EUR).

Acer Iconia Smart is powered by Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform, but the phone might receive an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade sometime next year.

Even if that upgrade won't come, the Iconia Smart still has a lot to offer in terms of performance.

Today, consumers are extremely technology savvy and depend heavily on that one gadget which more often than not is usually their smartphone. Acer’s ICONIA Smart is the perfect accessory for both technology enthusiasts and fashion conscious consumers,” said S. Rajendran, Chief Marketing Officer, Acer India.

Unfortunately, the device is a bit overpriced if we take into consideration that the phone's hardware configuration was announced almost a year ago.

In this regard, Iconia Smart is equipped with a single core 1 GHz Qualcomm MSM8255-1 Snapdragon processor and packs 8GB of internal memory, 512 MB of RAM, 512 MB of ROM, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

Given its large display and six-axis gyro sensor, the device is perfect for those who enjoy playing on the phone.

The phone's “pièce de résistance” is the 4.8-inch capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors support and 480 x 1024 pixels resolution.

In addition, Iconia Smart boasts an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, ace and smile detection, image stabilization, HD (720p) video recording capabilities, as well as a secondary 2-megapixel front facing camera for video calls.
