Acer will soon extend its budget portfolio

Acer is a device vendor known for its low-cost products. The company has a line of low-cost Android tablets boasting 7-inch screens and different configurations which are all marketed under the Iconia One moniker.

This proves to be quite confusing because some versions are better than others. For example, a bunch of them take advantage of Intel Atom Z2560 Clover Trail+ dual-core processors and are sold for prices starting up from $90 / €70.

Acer Iconia One 7 to get a spec bump

The folks over at Mobile Geeks have uncovered a listing in the lofty database of GFXBench, Acer seems to be prepping to roll out tablets taking advantage of the faster Intel Atom Z3735G quad-core Bay Trail processor (which is basically used in most Windows 8.1 with Bing slates these days).

The new variations will be sold under the same Iconia One 7, but their model numbers will start with B1-750. On the other hand, the tablets equipped with Clover Trail+ have numbers starting with B1-730.

You might also remember, Acer offers the B1-720 tablet which takes advantage of a MediaTek ARM-based processor, but this particular version is not marketed under the One umbrella.

Going back to the new model, the Iconia One B-750 hasn’t been officially announced by Acer, but it showed up a few times around the web.

With the B-750, Acer is throwing in a speedier processor while at the same time maintaining low the costs of the device. When it hits the retail locations in the US, the tablet will probably sell for $100 – $150 / €78 – €117.

Acer Iconia One 7 is extremely similar to the HP Stream 7

As for specs, the tablet is almost identical to the HP Stream which launched a few weeks ago. It comes with a 7-inch IPS screen offering 1280 x 800 pixel resolution.

As we already told you, the tablet takes advantage of an Intel Intel Atom Z3735G quad-core processor fitted with 1GB of RAM and backed up by either 8GB or 16GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card).

The device also takes advantage of two cameras (a 5MP main camera with auto-focus and a 0.3MP front shooter), 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

To compare, the HP Stream 7 offers the same screen size, resolution and processor, but only offers the 16GB of internal storage. The slate currently ships out for $99 / €78 so it’s highly possible the new Acer Iconia One 7 will be sold for the same rate.

It’s very probable all major brand vendors will launch an affordable tablet like this at some point, so Acer is just one of many yet to come.
