Back in February we told you that an Acer representative confirmed the Acer Iconia A1 (both old and new version) and A3 will be receiving the Android 4.4 KitKat update. We weren't given an exact time frame, but we were pleased to learn Acer was serious about pushing its updates.

Then, a few months passed and nothing really happened, and we know lots of you got impatient wondering if this was all some marketing strategy on behalf of Acer and the Android 4.4 KitKat update wasn't really coming at all.

Well, as September is ready to kick start, one of our readers has notified us that he has received the Android 4.4.2 KitKat OTA on his Acer Iconia A1-830.

He/ she doesn't provide us with details about how the new build is working, but a quick search on the official Acer forums reveals that other users have been given the same treatment. There are a bunch of topics where owners of the tablet who have updated to the new build share their experience.

Even if you have waited for this update to arrive since forever, you should take into consideration the fact that the new build seems to be bringing about a series of errors your tab might not have experienced before.

Here is what user medalekspmc has to say:

“As you probably now, 4.4.2 KitKat was released for my tablet today. I was very excited, so I downloaded it and installed it. When the installation was finished, it was preparing media things (after the Android logo with Chinese words) and my tab crashed 3 times during that process.”

“Finally, when everything was prepared, I started using tablet like I do every day. From that moment, I had to restart my tab about 20 times because it was freezing. Does anyone know what is the problem? I can barely use device for 1 hour before it freezes. Thank you in advance!”

Some users are a bit luckier and are able to actually turn on their tablet and use some of its feats, but not all work.

“I also got the update, nice! But Facebook and Facebook Messenger don't seem to work anymore... they just don't load. Anyone else?” says Digriz.

So before you jump to update, take into consideration that you might not be able to use your tab properly. The update has been confirmed to have arrived in Chile, Spain and the UK, so it seems Acer is rolling it out globally.
