Dual-display laptop ideas have been showcased in the past, but it seems Acer is genuinely planning on releasing such a product, even though it supposedly won't be able to bring it out before the third or fourth quarter of next year.

As one may know, Acer is one of the top tree worldwide suppliers of personal computers, though it is especially focused on mobile PCs.

This once, however, Acer isn't making the headlines by releasing s new netbook or another, but because of a leak published by TechReviewSource.

According to the report, Acer is creating a dual-display notebook, which means to say it lacks a physical keyboard.

With both screens measuring 15 inches in diagonal, one touchscreen is intended for acting as the display itself, while the other one turns into a keyboard and/or trackpad.

At the heart of the configuration lies an Intel Core i5 central processing unit, whose clock speed is of 2.67 GHz.

The leak does not give the full rundown of the specs, but it does state that, in this early stage, the unit is “buggy” and “slow.”

Still, Acer loaded Windows 7 Home Premium onto its prototype and has apparently succeeded in allowing the multitouch displays to “swap” screens.

Given that the project is in its beginning stages now and will only debut about a year in the future, it is possible that the final incarnation will utilize a next-generation CPU, like one of the Sandy Bridge Series.

What remains to be seen is if other companies decide to put together dual-display machines of their own or if touch-based keyboards truly become popular enough to rival physical ones.

Regardless, the dual-touchscreen mobile PC form Acer is not expected to actually show up on the market before the fall of 2011, which essentially means that there is still a lot of time for rivals to step up and offer alternatives.
