Although Acer promised customers it would deploy an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for its latest tablets, the company has yet to fulfill that promise.

Two months ago the company confirmed that Iconia Tab A500 and A100 would receive their major OS updates sometime in mid-April, but Acer did not reveal any exact release dates.

Today, Acer comes forward with new timelines which show the update was pushed, once again, to late April. Nevertheless, the company promises that Iconia Tab A100 will start receiving the Ice Cream Sandwich update beginning April 25.

However, the update will be rolled out only in Latin America on the 25th. Iconia Tab A100 owners living in the United States will get it two days later on April 27, whereas Canadian users will be able to upgrade their Iconia Tab A100 starting May 3.

Acer Iconia Tab A500 owners living in the States and Canada will receive their promised Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update on the same date, April 27. Latin America will get it on April 27 as well.

Both Acer Iconia Tab tablets were launched on the market one year ago with Android 3.0 Honeycomb on board. In the meantime, they received an Android 3.2 Honeycomb update and are about to be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich by mid-May.

Each tablet is equipped with an Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor clocked at 1 GHz, but the Iconia Tab A100 sports a small 7-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen, while the Iconia Tab A500 features a much larger 10.1-inch LDC capacitive touch display.

Aside from receiving a bump in OS version, the slates will also receive an updated Acer user interface, which runs on top of the mobile platform. The rest of the specs are almost identical with few exceptions, like battery and storage amount.
