Although Acer wasn’t that successful on the Android smartphone market, it looks like the company will continue to focus on Google’s mobile platform, though it will also launch a few Windows Phone devices next year.
Acer CloudMobile is an Android smartphone that received the IF Design award last year, though it has yet to make its debut on the market.
The handset was also showcased
at the Mobile World Congress 2012, in Barcelona and Acer promised that the CloudMobile would hit shelves sometime this year.
Well, it looks like Acer CloudMobile will be launched in the UK via Expanys retailer. According to the authorized seller, the smartphone will be available for purchase beginning September 5, though the release date is subject to change.
Customers who wish to buy the Acer CloudMobile will have to come up with 290 GBP (455 USD or 370 EUR) upfront. So far, we’ve been unable to find out whether or not UK carriers will also offer Acer’s Android smartphone in the following months.
According to the initial specs sheet of the smartphone, Acer CloudMobile will be shipped with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system out of the box, though we suspect Acer will want to provide a Jelly Bean upgrade soon after launch.
Hardware-wise, Acer CloudMobile
will be equipped with a dual-core Qualcomm 8260A processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and 1GB of RAM.
In addition, it will boast an 8-megapixel rear photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and “rich imaging features.” A secondary front-facing camera for video calls will be included as well.
Another strong point of the Acer CloudMobile is the stunning 4.3-inch HD (800 x 1280 pixels) IPS capacitive touchscreen display with zero air gap design.
Last but not least, the phone will offer only 8GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD memory card. Acer CloudMobile is now available for pre-order here
