By now, everyone keeping even half an eye on the technology market, or at least the PC segment, will know of how much solid state drives improve boot-up and application launch speeds.

We dare say that this asset is made all too apparent by the new chromebox that Acer made, called Acer Chromebox CXI.

The thing boots in 8 seconds thanks to the Chrome OS, and everything else, being stored on a 16 GB SSD.

And that's all the storage we get. That's right, you don't get to see hundreds of GB or several TGB of onboard storage space. That's the point of Chrome OS after all: you do everything in the cloud, online as it were, so you don't need onboard storage much.

The Acer Chromebox CXI does have an Intel Celeron 2957U Haswell processor though, as well as up to 4 GB of DDR3 1600 MHz RAM. Other specs include Bluetooth 4.0, Gigabit Ethernet, four USB 3.0 ports (can charge phones when PC is turned off) and an SD card reader for up to 32 GB. A 65W AC adapter powers everything.

All for the price of $179.99 / €135 (for 2 GB of RAM) or $219.99 / €165 (for 4 GB RAM). Sales will start in late September, 2014.
