As we’ve reported to you a couple of days ago, Acer’s CEO has once again criticized Microsoft for the tablet-oriented operating system Windows RT that’s already installed on a number of tablets, including the Surface RT.

A new report rolled out by PC Pro reveals that CEO JT Wang called Windows RT a “very immature” operating system, explaining that the company will most likely focus on devices capable of running the full version of Windows 8.

“We have some R&D projects, but we will be very, very cautious in deciding whether we will do the launch and mass production,” he was quoted as saying.

While Microsoft has chosen to remain completely tight-lipped on Windows RT sales, market researchers revealed that the tech giant has shipped 1.5 million Surface tablets, including the Pro model revealed in February.

Windows RT, on the other hand, will soon receive a new pack of improvements as part of the Blue update cycle scheduled to go live this summer.

A separate report revealed that in addition to all these improvements, Microsoft is also preparing a major discount for OEMs, in an attempt to bring cheaper Windows RT devices to the market.

While the discount hasn’t been disclosed, it’s believed that Microsoft is trying to clear out its tablet stock before launching the second-generation Surface.

No official information is available on the company’s new tablet, but sources familiar with the matter hinted that a new Surface unit is very likely to see daylight as soon as this month.

If the reports are true, Microsoft might launch an 8-inch tablet at the BUILD developer conference on June 26, the same event that’s supposed to witness the debut of the public preview of Windows 8.1.

What’s more, Microsoft might continue the Windows RT product family expansion with some new members that could see daylight either later this year or in early 2014.
