Back at IFA 2014, Acer put the Aspire Switch 11 on display, but the Taiwanese manufacturer also talked about the Aspire Switch 12 which was said to be arriving shortly.

Like its smaller brother, the Aspire Switch 12 is a hybrid Windows 8.1 tablet that can be used with a keyboard dock. But unlike the latter, it comes with a different design.

The first images of the Acer Aspire Switch 12 leak out

The folks over at Tablets Guide have managed to unearth the first images and spec list of the 12-incher which is yet to make an official debut on the market.

The tablet reminds us a little bit of the Lenovo Yoga, and even if it lacks the characteristic circular hinge design, its modes of use are pretty similar. For starters, the tablet can sit itself upon a surface, by virtue of the built-in stand, but users can also arrange it in “tilt” mode.

Naturally, there’s also the “hold” mode where users grip the tablet with one hand like they would be holding a magazine or a book.

As for internal specifications, the Acer Aspire Switch 12 was one of the tablets/laptops from the first wave of Broawell-sporting computers officially announced by Intel last month.

But first things first. The tablet has a 12.5-inch IPS LCD display with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and relies on a brand new Intel Core M processor clocked at 2.9GHz. Everything onboard is fitted with 4GB of memory backed up by 64GB of internal memory (which can be extended via microSD card).

The Aspire Switch 12 also has a microUSB, microHDMI port, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0. Up in front, the device has a 2MP camera for making video calls.

The hybrid runs Windows 8.1 out of the box, but we’re not being told whether a free subscription to Office 360 Personal is included in the overall bundle or not.

Acer Aspire Switch 12 should be making it out in time for Christmas

For the time being we’re not sure when the Acer Aspire Switch 12 will be making it on the market, but chances are we will be seeing it soon enough.

Back in September, when Intel talked about the first products taking advantage of Intel Core M chips, it also mentioned the ASUS Transformer Book T300TA, HP Envy x2, ASUS Transformer T300 Chi, Lenovo ThinkPad Helix 2, ASUS Zenbook UX305 and Wistron N-Midas.

The general consensus is that these products should make an official market debut as soon as the holiday seasons, although respective product manufacturers have been quite skittish about revealing the exact dates.

If the first Core M products don’t make it out in time for the Christmas spending frenzy, we can at least hope they will make a debut in early 2015.
